The Fifth International Tbilisi Symposium
on Language, Logic and Computation

The fifth Tbilisi Symposium on Language, Logic and Computation will be held in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi at the Tbilisi State University from October 6 to October 10, 2003. The Symposium is organized by the Centre for Language, Logic and Speech at the Tbilisi State University in conjunction with the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) of the University of Amsterdam. The 2003 forum is the fifth instalment of a series of biannual Symposia. The preceding meetings took place in the Georgian mountain resort Gudauri (1995), at the capital of Georgia Tbilisi (1997), in the Black see cost resort Chakvi (1999) and in the spa resort Likani situated in the Borjomi Canyon (2001).

Areas of Interest

The Symposium welcomes papers on current research in all aspects of Linguistics, Logic and Computation, including but not limited to:

  • Natural language semantics/pragmatics
  • Algebraic and relational semantics
  • Natural language processing
  • Logic in AI and natural language
  • Natural language and logic programming
  • Automated reasoning
  • Natural language and databases
  • Information retrieval from text
  • Natural language and internet
  • Constructive and modal logic

In line with the main trend in this field we strongly encourage the submission of papers concerning applications of logic to computation and the application of logic and computation to language description and modelling.

Submission of papers

For the general program 28 papers are accepted for presentation. All submitted papers have been strictly reviewed by the program committee which is detailed below. Papers can be submitted by sending in an abstract of no more than 4 pages a4, which include title, author's name, affiliation, complete mailing address, phone, fax and e-mail address, an abstract of 200 words maximum, and up to five keywords.
Abstracts can be submitted electronically.

Conference Format

The conference will include presentations of accepted papers, three tutorials and plenary talks. All accepted papers will appear in the conference proceedings. The proceedings of The Fifth International Tbilisi Symposium on Language, Logic and Computation are published by the ILLC

Tutorials

In parallel with the Symposium tutorials will be given for students and post-graduates by outstanding scholars. They are explicitly meant to address interdisciplinary issues in the fields of language, logic and computation.

  1. Elisabet Engdahl (Department of Linguistics Göteborg University ) will give a tutorial on general linguistics. Abstract
  2. Claire Gardent (CNRS LORIA) on computational linguistics. Abstract
  3. Wilfred Hodges (Queen Mary, University of London) on logic. Abstract
