Hotel Accommodation
The ESSLLI Organizers take care of the accommodation for lecturers and workshop
organizers (if you are one of those, you have been in contact with us about this) and
have booked a large number of student accommodation. All of the accommodation on
offer is intended for young and junior people who don't mind sharing bathroom
facilities and the bedroom with other participants. If you want regular hotel
accommodation, we would like to ask you to make your own arrangements.
Right across the street from the ESSLLI 2008 site is a building called the
Dammtorpalais with four hotels spread over its floors:
Many of the lecturers
will be staying in the Wagner and the Amsterdam. You can't get any
closer to staying to the ESSLLI site unless you decide to hide under a table and
sleep in one of the lecture rooms. All four hotels have prices around 80 € a
night.
Cheaper options in walking distance of the ESSLLI site are the
Fritz Hotel
(Schanzenstraße 101-103; € 60 per night) or
Hadley's Bed &
Breakfast (Am Schlump 85; € 69 per night). Another hostel is the
Instant Sleep Backpacker
Hostel (Max-Brauer-Allee 277) with multi-bed rooms and a few singles
and doubles.
We recommend searching for accommodation via the website
http://www.booking.com.
This website lists a number of very cheap options, but some of them are in a seedy
area around the central station. The organizers do not think that there is any danger
staying there, but participants booking a very cheap hotel there should keep in mind
that there will be some reason why this hotel is so cheap. If you wish to restrict
your search to hotels close to the ESSLLI site, then select Rothenbaum
(should be "Rotherbaum" which
is the city quarter in which the ESSLLI site is located) or
Zentrum/Neustadt.
