Dear subscribers of the ESSLLI newsletter:

For more information about ESSLLI, please check our webpage
or send an e-mail:

COMPUTER ACCESS. In seminar room W121 (west wing, right next to the
ESSLLI Music Room), we will set up a computer room generously sponsored
by Sun Microsystems. 24 Sunray stations will be accessible for all
participants during the opening times of the registration desks (i.e.,
from 9 to 19 on weekdays). In addition to that, there is wireless
internet available in the university buildings for which you will get a
login with your registration material.

REGISTRATION DESK. The registration desk will be open from 9-19 on
weekdays, from 14 to 22 on 3 August, and from 16 to 22 on 10 August. If
you booked accommodation with us, you have to register first before
going to you accommodation (unless you have made alternative
arrangements with us already). If you are arriving at a time that will
not allow you to register first before going to your accommodation,
please contact us as soon as possible at (If
we are already aware of your arrival time, you do not have to contact us

PHONE NUMBER AND EMERGENCY PHONE. During opening times, the registration
desk can be reached at +49 40 42838 4444 or by e-mail at If your trip is delayed and you are not sure
whether you reach the desk before it closes, please give us a call.
Also, if you encounter any serious trouble in Hamburg, please give us a
call. After opening hours of the registration desk, we have an emergency
cell phone that you can call in case of an emergency (please only use it
in serious cases!). Its phone number is +49 176 20438255.

LUNCH @ ESSLLI 2008. The main student restaurant ("Mensa") is a five
minute walk from the ESSLLI 2008 site and offers a choice of various
lunch dishes (including vegetarian options). Food in the student
restaurant is subsidized and you can get a full lunch dish (not
including drinks) for a student price betwen 1.10 EUR and 2.20 EUR. We
made an arrangement with the director of the Mensa that ESSLLI
participants can get the student price if they show the ESSLLI badge, so
make sure you bring your badge to have lunch there. (If you don't bring
it, you'll have to pay the guest price which is typically about 1 EUR
more, so it is still quite cheap.)

MUSIC ROOM. We would once more like to remind everyone that room W122
will be reserved for several hours per day as the ESSLLI 2008 Music
Room. There will be an electronic harpsichord and a collection of sheet
music. Please bring your instruments in order to give ESSLLI 2008 a
musical touch! It would be great if you could inform us at about
the instruments you bring so that we can coordinate a bit.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME. The ESSLLI 2008 social programme is packed. We have
four receptions in the evenings (4, 5, 7, and 11 August), the FoLLI
member meeting, the soccer tournament, the ESSLLI party and the
excursions. There are still a few (very few) tickets for the excursions
left. If you are interested, you can buy them for 20 EUR when you
register (of course, only until all of them are sold).

ESSLLI STUDENT SESSIONS. We would like to remind everyone of the ESSLLI
Student Session taking place from 16:00 to 17:00 every day. Students can
present their research during the student session, and active
participation of everyone would be appreciated. There will also be
student posters on display during the entire summer school on poster
boards in the seating area (1st floor of the lobby, next to the coffee

ESSLLI 2009. The 21st ESSLLI will be held in Bordeaux from 20 to 31 July
2009. The main organizer of ESSLLI 2009, Christian Retore, will be
present in Hamburg to answer questions about next year's ESSLLI.

HAMBURG CRUISE DAYS. From 30 July to 3 August, the harbour of Hamburg is
celebrating the "Hamburg Cruise Days", the presence of seven big cruise
liners in Hamburg. The ESSLLI 2008 arrival day is the last day of this
event, featuring a cruise ship parade (at 8:30 pm) and the grand finale
with fireworks (at 10:30 pm).
