Dear all,

  There are about three more weeks until ESSLLI 2008 in Hamburg and a lot
of you will now start with their travel preparations. This newsletter is
supposed to give you some more information in order to help you plan your
trip. Please read this newsletter carefully.

ESSLLI REGISTRATION IN HAMBURG. Opening hours of the
registration desk will be

  3 August    14-22
  4-8 August    9-19
  9 August    closed
  10 August   16-22
  11-15 August    9-19

Note that if you booked accommodation with us, you must get to the
registration desk before going to your accommodation (for some of
the places, we have the keys, so there is no way to enter the
accommodation without getting the key first). At the registration
desk someone will guide you to your accommodation.

If you are arriving at a time that will not allow you to go to the
registration desk before it closes for the night, please send us
an e-mail to esslli2008@science.uva.nl IMMEDIATELY, as we have to
discuss how to deal with this situation. This is particularly important
for participant living in the student dorms (Rahlstedt or
Paul-Sudeck-Haus) who will arrive before Sunday, 3 August.

FORMAL GRAMMAR 2008. As you may know, ESSLLI 2008 has a satellite
conference held on the middle weekend of ESSLLI. FG-2008 registration is
now open! FG-2008 is the 13th conference on Formal Grammar and is held on
the weekend of August 9-10 in conjunction with ESSLLI 2008. We invite you
to attend FG! The FG-2008 homepage is at

ESSLLI MUSIC ROOM. Keep in mind that we are offering a music room for the
participants of ESSLLI where you can relax and play music together. It
would be good if many of you could bring their instruments. Don't forget
them at home! Let us know about the instruments you bring so that we can
help to coordinate the musical activities of ESSLLI 2008.

RECEPTIONS. In addition to the City Hall reception on Monday, 4 August,
there will be publishers' receptions on Thursday, 7 August and Monday, 11
August. The reception on 7 August will be hosted by Cambridge University
Press in order to celebrate the launch of the new ASL journal "Review of
Symbolic Logic". The reception on 11 August will be hosted by Springer
Verlag in order to announce the new editorial team and editorial board of
the "Journal of Philosophical Logic".

BETH DISSERTATION AWARD. In combination with the 7 August reception, there
will also be the announcement of the winner of the 2008 Beth Dissertation
Award
