Dear subscribers to the ESSLLI newsletter:
We shall keep you informed via the ESSLLI newsletter about
the developments in the preparation of ESSLLI 2008. The
newsletters will be sent out at least once a month, probably
more often as ESSLLI 2008 approaches. For further information,

- The programme of ESSLLI 2008 has been fixed. There will be
five foundational courses, 22 introductory courses, 13
advanced courses and ten workshops. The 50 ESSLLI courses
have been distributed to the two weeks. A complete list
of courses and a preliminary schedule distributing the
courses and workshops over the two weeks is available at

- The organizers of ESSLLI 2008 are aware that the total cost
of ESSLLI participation (i.e., the sum of travel expenses,
accommodation expenses and the registration fee) is a major
factor in the decision to attend ESSLLI. It is still too
early to make any predictions about the registration fee,
but we have been actively working on keeping the total
costs low: The local organizers have arranged for very
affordable student accommodation in student dorms. Hamburg
is connected to 100 destinations in Europe by budget and
low-price airlines (Air Berlin, Germanwings, Aer Lingus,
Air Baltic, easyJet, flybe). In addition to that, we have
arranged a deal with Lufthansa which allows participants of
ESSLLI 2008 to get a 10 to 20% discount on all flights of
Lufthansa to Hamburg for ESSLLI 2008. More information on
the total costs will be available on the webpage.
- The European Association for Theoretical Computer Science
has officially endorsed ESSLLI 2008. Springer Verlag has
agreed to sponsor the student session book prize (as in
past years). We are currently talking to various other
national and international potential sponsors to support
the organization of ESSLLI 2008. A complete list of the
