Second Philosophy, Pluralism and the Multiverse

In this talk I will explain Penelope Maddy's naturalistic methodology of "Second Philosophy" and the dual stances of Thin Realism and Arealism which she claims it gives rise to. I will then argue that neither of these stances is warranted by the methodology since they have in common features which the Second Philosopher should reject. The first such feature is a strictly classical outlook on mathematics and the second is their single universe picture of set theory. I suggest that Second Philosophy instead leads to logical pluralism and a multiverse view of sets.
