RetrosProspective on Twenty Years of Formal Semantics
We will discuss the history and current state of the
research program for formal semantics of natural language proposed by
Richard Montague. Part of this story is internal: what are
the successive questions and results that have driven this
enterprise up to the current international agenda of research?
Another part is external: what is the changing scientific
environment for formal semantics, and what applications can
it possibly have in an increasingly practically minded world?
